Dear Natalie,

First of all. You are not missing anything inside of yourself! Don't you remember when we were Sophomores and went skiing in Vermont? You were the one who went out of the lodge at night and stood in the snow looking up at all of the stars and put your arms up to the heavens. And you made all is girls come out and get in a circle and sing that old camp song, 'Give God the glory, glory, children of the Lord.' We thought you were a bit crazy but we joined in. You kept on saying how close you felt to some sort of universal energy. No one knew exactly what that meant, except you, but that was ok because we all had fun. Do you remember?

I can't wait to get to Jerusalem. I found some of my old pictures that I took on my first trip a million years ago, after my senior year in high school. I've been staring at them and trying to remembering the feelings and emotions I had then. It was so long ago. But I do remember being 'in love' with the city. So here is one of my favorites. We came into the city for the first time at dusk and I took the picture with Lennie's arm around me.  Lucky the picture wasn't all blurred.  Do you remember Lennie?  We were in love for the whole two weeks of the trip.  He was tall and lanky and lived in San Diego. Of course, I never saw him again.  Now, what was his last name?  Was it Liebowitz or Leibovitz?  Oh, why would you remember?  Doesn't matter and I'm not doing a search for him. Do you think the city still looks the same?

Yes, Gary is not happy about me leaving. But we only just started to date. I can't plan my life around him. I did that with my husband and you see what it got me. Miserable years of being put down. I'm not doing that for anyone ever again.

I love the picture you sent me of the Wall. Take more pictures.

Love,

Maggie

Dear Maggie,

I can't wait for you to come to Jerusalem.  Without you, my best friend forever, it is not the same.  David is busy, what else is knew?  He leaves early for the Hebrew University campus.  I told him not to wake me.  So far he has been good and slips out of the room, just opening the shutters as he leaves.  That's ok, because then the sun pours into the room and I can still just lie in bed. This is the first real break from Norwalk I've had in 25 years!  The last thing I need is to have to wake up at 7:00 like at home.  I want to doze and slowly let the sun wake me up as I snuggle under the delicious bedding.  This is some hotel!  I think the sheets must be expensive Egyptian cotton.  They feel so unbelievable against my skin.  And the window opens up onto a view that is amazing.  I can practically see people praying at the Wall.

I went down to the Western Wall by myself yesterday and took this picture.

Jerusalem Wall - Property of Dr Holstein

It is beyond to see so many people of such different backgrounds coming here to pray.  I didn't actually go up to the Wall to pray.  I just stood there and watched all these women.  I wouldn't know what to say.  How do you touch a Wall and pray?  Where is the energy coming from?  Maybe I am missing a spiritual link? Maybe my mother forgot to teach me something?  I know I talk to God sometimes, and I have begged for help on occasion.  But this is different.  They seem so connected to what?  To Him? To something inside of themselves that I haven't found?  What do you think Maggie?  You know me best.  What do they have that I don't have?

I love you and can't wait for you to come here.  I'll take you to the Wall and you will see! Hurry and get your plane tickets.  Does Gary know you are coming?  I bet he will miss you.  Ah, new love.  It must be great.

Natalie
